A Virtual Private Network, or VPN, is a private data network whose route is the telecommunication highway. A VPN will work better on WildBlue than dial-up by a longshot, this doesn’t mean it’s a perfect situation. The good news is that VPNs will work over WildBlue network, some better than others.

SSL VPN

WildBlue recommends the use of an SSL based VPN with it's network. They've had long success helping customers using this particular type of VPN.

IPSEC VPN

Users of IP Sec-based VPNs might find that their VPN will work over the WildBlue network, but will likely be slower due to the effects of latency. Latency has to do with a signal’s delay due to travel time or obstacles. Hopefully your information technology department can support a SSL-based VPN.

WildBlue SSL Better Going Forward

There’s more good news too! As of October 9, 2007, WildBlue Enterprise Solutions formed partnerships with UDcast , Xiplink , and Trispen to provide expanded VPN networks for small to medium-sized businesses. These partnerships will ensure that VPN works at a reasonable rate, even if it’s not as fast as WildBlue without using VPN at all. Small and medium-sized businesses can now feel more secure than ever when they purchase WildBlue products.

This solution allows for an integrated, high performance VPN network to keep small to medium size businesses working efficiently. Thanks to this secure VPN network, communications will be even faster and bandwidth more plentiful.

It’s important to remember that WildBlue customer service is not responsible for troubleshooting VPN issues or offering extensive VPN advice. They will suggest SSL VPN and give the latest information. But that doesn’t mean to give up on using VPN with WildBlue, as much progress has been made and the kinks are being worked out.

Customer Testimonials

Living out in the country, we could only get dial up Internet service and it would literally take hours to do what now takes minutes. Downloading upgrades, surfing the web and paying bills online is now a joy!
